I regret to update that the seedlings did not survive in my windowsill…

While this is an unfortunate result considering my excitement, after some time to reflect, I have come to terms with it. Life is not always about the wins, sometimes it's about the losses, too, and what we can learn from them. From this loss, I learned that I ought to be more attentive to those who require extra attention and care, in this instance, seedlings. I also learned that seedlings don’t always need water… rookie mistake. But I will persist in my plant adventures!

  The plants are doing well. They’ve been steadily growing, and I haven’t really noticed any of the leaves or stems dying, except for maybe one or two, which I cut off so that they plant would be healthier. I have been watering them daily; they sit in direct sunlight, so the soil dries up fast. They need a lot more attention than my other houseplants do, but that’s okay. It’s fun for me to take care of them. Something I’m starting to worry about, though, is the environment they’re in. The seeds of the flowers I planted are flowers that prefer to be outside. I am anxious about how they might bloom without the outside environment they want.

CAS: 17 Sept. 2020

  7 September 2020 These past few weeks, I have taken upon myself the project of growing 3 different plants! I have a strong passion for plants, and I have a whopping 27 in my room as of today… So, a few weeks ago I decided I would try to grow some plants of my own. I went to one of my favorite nurseries, Buchanan’s Native Plants, and I purchased two packets of seeds. I bought a packet of Oriental Nights and a packet of scarlet Flax seeds, then planted those seeds into pots of their own. I had also been meaning to plant a pack of Alpine Marigold seeds I had been given while traveling in Colorado, so I did so while I was planting my other seeds. It’s shown in the photo below that I planted the Flax seeds into the red pot, the Oriental Nights into the blue pot, and the Alpine Marigolds in the brown pot. The seeds were planted on August 25th. CAS: Sept. 21 2020

  Here is an image of the progress from September 21: The seeds sprouted so well! I must have done a good job planting the seeds, because they look great so far. I am very excited. I noticed they grow towards the light a lot, which I think is really cute, but every now and then I turn around the pots so they grow in the other direction if they’re leaning over a lot. I am excited to see how they turn out.  I think growing these plants is good for me; it’s fun, obviously, but it’s also something to get me out of bed every day. That’s kind of why I like plants so much; because, if I don't get out of bed and take care of them and prune them and water them, they die. I have something to do every day, even if it isn't a big deal, it always makes my day just a little more fun.
